Abstract: | In this contribution an optimization method for shell structures is presented. This method was developed in order to perform a simultaneous optimization of the shape and position of the mid surface and a topology optimization to introduce cut-outs. A topology optimization method for continuum structures is combined with a manufacturing constraint for deep drawable sheet metals. It is shown, how more than a million design variables can be handled efficiently using a mathematical optimization algorithm for the design update and the finite element method for the structural simulation. © 2016 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
