Abstract: | Two equations of state for ionized monolayers at the oil-water interface have recently been proposed which differ by a factor of 2 in the term representing the kinetic energy of the molecules. Both equations have here been derived, and it has been shown that whereas one equation (with the factor of 2) should apply to detergents at relatively high concentrations in aqueous solution, the other applies at very low concentrations, and also when excess of a non-surface-active electrolyte is added to the substrate. |
