Abstract: | A structural classification was examined for paramagnetic smectics relative to the ESR spectra of orientated layers. The number of components and their location in the spectra of such systems depend on the symmetry of the liquid crystal unit cell and the orientation of the sample in the external magnetic filed. The determination of the internal molecular structure of the meso phase is possible by analyzing the effective g-tensor realized as a result of spin exchange in the system.
