Abstract:The two phase miscible displacement is governed by a system of the two differential equations, one of elliptic type for the pressure and the other of parabolic type for the concentration of one of the fluids. The concentration is approximated by a standard Galerkin method and the pressure by a new method. The new method is more convenient to calculate than the standard mixed finite element, because it decreases the number of the unknowns. Optimal order estimates are derived when the external flows are smoothly distributed.
