Abstract: | The phase regions in the system hexanol, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and concentrated aqueous solutions of sorbitol were similar to the corresponding system with glycerol. In addition to the expected phase regions of a water/sugar micellar solution, a lamellar liquid crystalline phase, and the alcohol solution with solubilized sugar and water, a small region was found with an extremely stable emulsion, which could be separated by ultracentrifugation at 108,000 g. This emulsion consisted of micron sized droplets separated by layers of a lamellar liquid crystal. |
