Abstract:
Methanolic solutions of the heptaene macrolide antibiotics, namely amphotericin B and hamycin, are molecular dispersions. These polyenes were found to be self-aggregated in neutral aqueous solution. The aggregates of hamycin dissociate in acidic or basic aqueous solutions. The smaller chain aliphatic alcohols have a higher solvating power for hamycin.
