Turbulence measurements over longitudinal micro-grooved surfaces

Abstract:The expectation that drag reducing longitudinal microgrooves modify coherent structures in the near wall region of a turbulent boundary layer is examined experimentally. The experiments were conducted in both water channel and wind tunnel facilities. Results of direct drag measurement and local flow detail are given. The results of the measurements are discussed in the light of various theories proposed to explain the drag reduction properties of microgrooves.
