| Abstract: | A peracetylated phenyl 2-thioglycoside (1) of a 5-azido analogue neuraminic acid methyl ester was prepared from a known 5-amino precursor by a diazo transfer reaction. Glycosidation of 1 by alcohols proceeded smoothly in CH3CN to give alpha-sialylated products in good yield. |
