Effects of diffusion on long-range electron transfer

The competition between diffusive hops and direct tunneling of solvated electrons to scavenger molecules in solid classes has been discussed in the literature. We have considered these two reaction paths in terms of stationary kinetic diffusion equations and multiphonon electron-transfer rate theory, and for coupling of the solvated electron to a broad continuum of nuclear modes. Diffusion can only be expected to be important for less polar glasses.
