Abstract: | Effects of lattice distortion and oxygen vacancy on tunnel magnetoresistance in Fe/MgO/Fe junctions are theoretically investigated. By treating the distortion in MgO as the random potential and performing numerical simulations based on the Kubo–Landauer formula, it is shown that the magnetoresistance ratio decreases with increasing randomness. Moreover, first-principles calculations within the density functional theory show that the defect states in the Fe/MgO cluster containing an oxygen vacancy induce no significant shift in the Fermi level. |
