Abstract:he direct synthesis of novel mesoporous molecular sieve MCM-41 has been accomplished successfully in a hydrothermal system using silica gel as silica source and surfactant C18H3 (CH3)3NCl as template without any organic silica or organic alkali. The acidity, thermal and hydrothermal stability, as well as acid and base proof stability were investigated extensively. It has been found that MCM-41 synthesized in this study has an average pore diameter of ca. 3. 8 nm, its BET surface area is larger than 1000 m2/g, both benzene and water sorption capacity are over 60%. The prevailing acid sites distributed over MCM-41 are weakand medium-strengthed ones. MCM-41 has a poor hydrothermal and base proof stability, but a high thermal and acid proof stability.
