Dynamical simulation of the fission process involving one or two degrees of freedom: Effect on fission times

Abstract:
The effect of taking into account an additional (with respect to the main fission degree of freedom) collective degree of freedom on mean fission times is studied on the basis of a modified combined dynamical and statisticalmodel. It is shown that, in just the same way as within the one-dimensionalmodel, the mean fission time as a function of the angular momentum of the primary nucleus is nonmonotonic, having the shape of a curve featuring a maximum. The same applies to the dependence of the mean fission time on the fissility parameter of the primary nucleus.
