Abstract: | We report the experimental discovery of a temperature-dependent change in the nature of glass fracture under low-energy (<10 keV) electron bombardment. This is shown to depend on the transition from the thermal-shock to the thermalfluctuation mechanism of fracture at the limiting temperature T1 = (Tg – 150) °C. The high-temperature cleavage fracture of K8 and TF1 glasses was studied and the threshold value of the critical power initiating cleavage fracture was determined (for the glasses studied thr = 50–70 W·sec·cm–2).Translated from Izvestiya Vysshikh Uchebnykh Zavedenii, Fizika, No. 4, pp. 14–16, April, 1991. |
