Abstract: | Experimental and theoretical investigations of some thermodynamic, transport and structural properties of very concentrated aqueous electrolyte solutions are reviewed. Attention is focussed on the range of concentrations between anhydrous molten salts and the hydrate melts. In this region, the hydration shells of the ions are incomplete, and ion-ion, ion-water, and water-water interactions must be considered. Extensions of the Debye-Huckel theory are not valid in this region, and models based on anhydrous molten salts may be useful. |
