Instability of Three Dimensional Waves in Shear Flows

The instability of a shear flow is greatly affected by the presence of one or more preexisting waves. This problem is considered for an oblique wave on a parallel shear flow with a free surface. The analysis uses a mean flow first harmonic theory.
