A correlation between electric polarizabihty and the mean linear electronic charge density is proposed and shown to exist for some homologous electrically neutral atomic and molecular species. The correlation implies an inverse relationship between molecular dimensions in these species and the charge distortion induced in them by a uniform electric field. |
