SERS Studies of Electrode/Electrolyte Solution Interfaces Ⅰ.Cu/1.0M Na 2SO 4 and NaCl Systems
Abstract:Abstract The first SERS spectra of water on Cu and Au electrodes have been obtained in Na 2SO 4 solutions in the potential region negative of -1.0V. Notably dramatic enhancement of the bending vibration of surface water has been observed in these electrochemical environments for the first time. The appearance and change of the SERS bands of water correlates with the current density of hydrogen evolution. A brief comparison of the previous results of SERS of water obtained in halide containing systems and the present study was given. A special ordered structure of surface water, in favor of the water dissociation for hydrogen evolution, is proposed.
