Synthesis and Crystal Structure of (4R, 5R)(5-Hydroxymethyl-2,2-dimethyl- [1,3]dioxolan-4-yl)-bis-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-methanol

The title compound (4R, 5R) (5-hydroxymethyl-2,2-dimethyl-[ 1,3]dioxolan-4-yl)-bis-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-methanol (C21H26O6, Mr=374.42), was synthesized and crystallized～ in the monoclinic system, space group P2 with a=9.347(1), b=10.11(1), c=11.465(2)Å, β=114.057(2), V=989.5(2)Å3, Z=2, Dc=1.257mg/mm3, F(000)=400, μ(MoKα)=0.092mm-1, final R=0.0415, wR=0.1077 and 2369 observed reflections [I>2σ(I)]. The results show that the configuration of both C(2) and C(3) are in R form, and the two OH groups are on one side of the dioxolane ring. The title compound consists of a dioxolane ring and two aromatic～ rings. Two intramolecular hydrogen bonds O(1)-H(1)…O(3) and O(4)-H(4)…O(2) are observed. In the crystal, the network is formed along the axis b by the intermolecular hydrogen bond O(1)-H(1)…O(5).
