Abstract:Catalytic effect of a variety of complex catalysts on the reaction C+CO_2=2CO has been investigated by thermogravimetry method at ambient pressure. A disposable catalyst FeCl_3+Na_2SO_4 was fouud to possess high activity and low price. The optimum weight ratio of FeCl_3 to Na_2SO_4 in this catalyst is Na/Fe=1. The catalytic activity increases nonlinearly with increasing catalyst content in carbon. Under the same reaction condition, the activity of some typical catalysts was found in the following orders: FeCl_3+Na_2SO_4>Na_2CO_3>Fe_3O_4+Na_2SO_4>NiCl_2+Na_3SO_4>FeCl_3+Na_2CO_3>Fe Cl_3.The results of XRD analysis showed that the catalytic mechanism is an oxidation-reduction cycle in which iron acts as an oxygen carrier. The transfar of oxygen from CO_2 to C is completed by iron. Sodium is a disperser which improves the dispersion of iron.
