Thermodynamics of nonstationary and transient effects in a relativistic gas

Abstract:
We show how a system of generalized Fourier and Navier-Stokes equations, containing relaxation terms and couplings between heat flow and viscosity, can be consistently derived from phenomenological thermodynamics and from kinetic theory. The coefficients are given explicitly for a relativistic Boltzmann gas.
