Alpha-gamma angular correlation measurements as a sensitive method determining the sign of the nuclear quadrupole deformation

Abstract:
In-plane 24Mg(α, α1γ) angular correlations habe been measured at Eα = 104 MeV. The correlation parameters and the reaction amplitudes extracted from the data have been studied by a coupled-channel analysis. Drastic effects of the sign of the intrinsic quadrupole deformation are found.
