Abstract: | The axial flow velocity behind a normal ionizing shock wave propagating in hydrogen has been determined by measuring the Doppler shift of the Hβ line emitted by the shock-heated atoms. The value obtained is consistent with the Chapman-Jouguet hypothesis. |
