The reaction products of the oxide sulphates of rare earths with hydrogen chloride are mixtures of chlorides M^IIICl₃ and chloride-sulphates M^IIICl₃ and chloride-sulphates M^IIIClSO₄. By oxidation of these mixtures, oxide sulphates MO₂SO₄ are formed as final products. Intermediary products are mixtures of M^IIIOCl? M^IIIClSO₄.
