A simple model of atomic collision in the presence of an intense radiation field: A comparison test for gauge invariant vs. conventional quantum transition probabilities

Abstract:
A simple model mimicking the collision between two atomic partners in the presence of an intense radiation field is investigated according to a two-state, non perturbative approach, to put in quantitative evidence inadequacies in both transition probability and cross section arising from the use of transition amplitudes which are not gauge-invariant.
