Decomposable super‐simple NRBIBDs with block size 4 and index 6

Abstract:Necessary conditions for the existence of a super‐simple, decomposable, near‐resolvable urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0001‐balanced incomplete block design (BIBD) whose 2‐component subdesigns are both near‐resolvable urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0002‐BIBDs are urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0003 (mod urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0004) and urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0005. In this paper, we show that these necessary conditions are sufficient. Using these designs, we also establish that the necessary conditions for the existence of a super‐simple near‐resolvable urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0006‐RBIBD, namely urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0007 (mod urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0008) and urn:x-wiley:10638539:media:jcd21637:jcd21637-math-0009, are sufficient. A few new pairwise balanced designs are also given.
