We discuss the recent work of Wertheim on the dielectric constant of nonpolar fluids, and also present some new calculations on the Kirkwood-Yvon theory. These serve to emphasise the prime importance of the state dependence of the effective polarisability in interpreting deviations from the Clausius-Mossotti theory for real dense fluids. |
