| Abstract: | The Nobel Prize 2011 in Physics has been awarded to Saul Perlmutter,Adam Riess and Brian Schmidt for their contributions to the "Discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae".This article gives some background on the importance of such a discovery and the research path it is opening. |
