Eight new diazo-compounds of squaric acid are reported,and the reaction characteristics of this acid with some diazo- or azo-compounds are also described.In the reaction of squaric acid with 4-aminoazobenzen,an expected 1,3-bis 4-(phenylazo)anilino]-squaraine is obtained,diazoaminobenzene reacts with squaric acid to produce an unexpected compound 1,3-his(anilino)squaraine;in the reaction of squaric acid with 2-aryl-pyrrole,orwith 4-(dimethylamino)azobenzene,only the mono substituted products 5 or 7 are obtain-ed.
