Abstract: | Nitroxyl radical TEMPO is found to catalyze the decomposition of sodium hypochlorite in an aqueous-alkali medium. The mechanism of NaOCl decomposition to form ClO· radical is proposed which involves protonated TEMPO, oxoammonium salt TEMPO+, and hydroxyl radical. |
