Abstract: | Temperature control and solvent specification are used to reduce aromatic aldehydes and ketones to intermediate alcohols rather than methylene derivatives using HCO2NH4 as a catalytic hydrogen transfer agent. A mechanism for the catalytic reduction is proposed. |
