2a,4a-Diazacyclopenta[c,d]Azulenes

A method of preparing 5-aryl-1,2-pentaniethyleneimidazoles from O-methylcaprolactim and -aminoacetophenone hydrochlorides is described. It is shown that 1, 2-tri-, -tetra-, and -pentamethyleneirrüdazoles and phenacyl bromide give the corresponding quaternary imidazolium salts, cyclization of which in the presence of base gives the previously unknown 5,6, 78-tetrahydro-2a, 4a-diazacyclopenta(c,dJazulenes (IVa-i).T.
