Abstract: | Optical absorption spectra of Co(II) and Ni(II) doped cadmium maleate dihydrate (CMDH) are recorded at room temperature and liquid nitrogen temperature. The UV–VIS–NIR spectra are characteristic of the transition metal ions in solids. The results and analyses of the spectra indicate near octahedral site symmetry for cobalt ion and trigonally distorted octahedral site symmetry for nickel ion. The following crystal field parameters are derived. The IR spectra are characteristic of the host lattice CMDH. |
