Abstract:
Large eddy simulations of the flow between a rotatingand a stationary disk have been performed using a dynamic and amixed dynamic subgrid-scale model. The simulations were comparedto direct numerical simulation results. The mixed dynamic modelgave better overall predictions than the dynamic model.Modifications of the near-wall structures caused by the mean flowthree-dimensionality were also investigated. Conditionalaverages near strong stress-producing events led to the sameconclusions regarding these modifications as studies of the flowgenerated by direct numerical simulation, namely a distinctasymmetry of the vortices producing sweeps and ejections.
