Abstract:Ten new spiropyranindolines containing N-octadecyl have been synthesized. Themelting point, elemental analysis and ~1H NMR spectra were measured to identify the struc-ture of these new compounds. All compounds show photochromic properties after irradiationwith UV light. Based on UV-visible spectral data and the influence of solvent polarity onspectra of spiropyran, the effect of substituent on spectral properities of ring-opening formwere discussed and the zwitterionic structure of the colored form was proposed.
