Application of a uniform semiclassical theory to the multiple Coulomb excitation of heavy ions

Transition probabilities of classically allowed multiple Coulomb excitation of deformed heavy nuclei induced by heavy ions are calculated within a uniform semiclassical approximation. It is found that a Bessel uniform approximation is necessary and that caustics have to be treated carefully.
