The group theoretical approach to nuclear quadrupole resonance

The phenomenon of nuclear quadrupole resonance is presented from the grouptheoretical point of view. This approach allows one to discuss the splitting of the nuclear spin states without prior wave-mechanical calculation. Nuclear quadrupole moments are also compared with moecular quadrupole moments and the differences discussed. Finally the selection rules are deduced.
