Abstract: | An expression for the speed of sound is derived in terms of the radial distribution function and its temperature derivative. Since the radial distribution function and the speed of sound can be determined independently from experiments, the relation found can be used to analyze the substance’s phase diagram and the thermodynamic consistency of the equations of state. |
