Abstract: | The magnetism of chromocene, Cr(cp)2 where CP = C5H−5, has been measured as a function of temperature between 0.90 and 303.2 K. The results are reproduced by complete ligand field theory in slightly distorted C∞v symmetry (Dt = 1153, Ds = 4212, Dq = 28, ζ = 67, B = 553 cm−1, C/B = 4 and k = 0.37). The ground state 3E2(a1e32) shows a zero-field splitting, D = 15.1 cm−1, E = 0. |
