Radiolysis of ferrocyanide solutions studied by infrared spectroscopy

Abstract:The behavior of the neutral and basic aqueous ferrocyanide system under irradiation is investigated using the coupling of a LINAC with infrared spectroscopy. The comparison between the neutral and basic system evidences the formation of the hydroxopentacyanoferrate (III) ions and gives information on the reaction mechanisms. The pseudo-protective effect of the dissolved dioxygen on the ferrocyanide is explained via a mechanism implying the superoxide radical anion.
