Abstract:The kinetics of the reactions between ascorbic acid (VC) and nitroxides (4-hydroxy-TEMPO or HO-TEMPO,4-hexanoyloxy-TEMPO or C6-TEMPO and Palmitoyoxy-TEMPO or C16-TEMPO) in sodium 1-undecyldodecyl sulfate (SUDS) micelles were studied by stopped-flow ESR technique with the aim of investigating the microenvironment effect of these reactions. The second-order rate constants of these reactions were found to be 4.9, 1.6 and 0.22 L*mol-1*s-1 for HO-TEMPO, C6-TEMPO and C16-TEMPO, respectively, indicating the dependence of the reactivity on the length of the side chain of the nitroxides. Kinetic analysis shows that the structure and essence of the microenvironment also has influences on the reactivity of antioxidants.
