Abstract:The reaction of (C_5H_9_C5H_4)_2ErCl in THF with LiCH_3 in Et_2O at room temperature gave (C_5H_9C_5H_4)_2ErCH_3]_2, which was extracted with toluene several times to remove LiCl. To the extract was added a certain amount of hexane and then the solution was placed in a refrigerator for crystallization. A pink single crystal was selected for X-ray analysis. The structure analysis shows that the title complex is a dimer with the coordination number of Er being 8. Two cyclopentylcyclopentadienyl and two methyls are bonded to Er ̄(3+) to form a tetrahedron around it. Each cylopentyl in the (C_5H_9C_5H_4)_2ErCH_3]_2 has two conformations and the two cyclopentyls in the cyclopentylcyclopentadienyls on the same Er are located on the opposite sides.
