| Abstract: | Treatment of aromatic ketones or aldehydes with a lanthanide metal and chlorotrimethylsilane in tetrahydronfuran in the presence of isopropanol provided good yields of the corresponding pinacols. This pinacolic reductive coupling was not observed with aliphatic ketones or aldehydes. |
