Abstract: | ![]() We report a qualititive perturbation-theoretic analysis of the effects of substituents on the spin-orbit coupling and on the density of states in diazomethane and pyrazoline systems. The importance of the form of the distortion which accompanies approach to the singlet-triplet crossing zone is also discussed with the aim of determining when reactions involving a spin multiplicity change can compete in rate with spin-conserving reactions. |
