Abstract: | The nature of the competition between a fundamental mode and a second harmonic mode depends on whether their azimuthal mode numbers are the same or different. If they are the same, the second harmonic may aid the excitation of the fundamental and eventually, at high beam currents, be suppressed by the fundamental, if the azimuthal mode numbers are different, the two modes may grow together. |
