| Abstract: | Novel thermotropic liquid crystals containing a terminal dimethylamino group were synthesized via a multi-step route. Three phenyl ring units linked with ester and azomethine groups constituted the mesogenic core. All the compounds were characterized by spectroscopic techniques, polarizing microscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. An enantiotropic nematic phase was observed for all the systems studied. |
