Charge transfer transitions in the excitation spectra of PrX3:Ce (X=Cl, Br) scintillators

The Cl⁻→Pr³⁺ charge transfer transition is identified to occur in the excitation spectrum of PrCl₃:Ce³⁺ at 211 nm (47,393 cm⁻¹). A model based on the dissociation of the charge transfer state is proposed to explain the presence of the ligand-to-Pr³⁺ charge transfer transition band in the excitation spectrum of PrX₃:Ce³⁺ (X=Cl, Br) when the Ce³⁺ emission is monitored.
