| Abstract: | Abstract A high yielding and facile Biginelli reaction for the synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-ones and thiones, using inexpensive and available alkaline earth metal chlorides (MgCl2, CaCl2, SrCl2 and BaCl2) and acetic acid as the solvent in a homogeneous catalytic reaction, is reported.  | |
