Abstract: | An electrolytic method has been used to measure the diffusivity of hydrogen through gold in the well-annealed state, as-quenched from 1248 K, and in foils formed by aging the quenched material at temperatures in the range 348–673 K. The resulting diffusivities are consistent with a simple statistical model in which a fraction of the H atoms saturate traps formed by quenched-in vacancies, but the mobility is primarily determined by the excess of nontrapped H atoms diffusing through “normal” sites in the fcc lattice. |
