Four new bands of the unassigned N2 Herman infrared system (HIR) are observed in a pulsed-discharge apparatus. The upper HIR state is produced by the N2(A) + N2(A) energy pooling reaction which is studied by time-resolved spectroscopy; its production rate constant is found to be ?4 × 10?11 cm3 molecule?1 s?1 and its energy 12eV. |
