Abstract:In this paper, the effects of NaOH amount, reaction temperature, catalyst concentration and hydrogen pressure on the hydrogenation of pisobutyl acetophenone (IBAP) over 5% Pd/C are investigated in detail. The optimum reaction conditions are as follows: p (H2) =09 MPa, T=303 K, m (5%Pd/C) =04 g, and m (NaOH) =008 g. The conversion of IBAP and the yield of 1(4isobutylphenyl)ethanol (IBPE) are 995% and 958%, respectively. The hydrogenation reaction follows the first order kinetics with respect to IBAP concentration, catalyst concentration and hydrogen pressure, respectively. The activation energy for this reaction is ca 422 kJ/mol.
